Course description, Motor Drives: Grid connection requirements

Since 2019, there have been significant requirements for a sinusoidal current draw for new connections over 50kW. In applications within this power class, motor drives are often used, e.g., for heat pumps, cooling systems, or large industrial compressed air systems.

In this course, the focus is on the motor drive's input stage in principle, a DC power supply. Various solutions to reduce the harmonic currents are examined. The course's goal is to illuminate the issue of harmonic currents, which is the primary problem associated with high frequency converter loads. Different solution models will be presented, which require further investigation of each individual case to select.

Important to be proactive: In the design phase, an appropriate solution must be chosen for addressing the issue of excessive harmonic current; if this problem is to be solved after the installation is built, it will become costly and impractical. This course presents solution proposals and focuses on this important issue.
